Enthalpy Report

Enthalpy is the total heat content value in air, considering both dry bulb temperature and relative humidity level. If either value changes while the other is constant the enthalpy value has to change.

Questions?

Persons programing, servicing or commissioning control systems must understand the mechanical system to a point where they can logically describe the physical response on the devices of the control system under all circumstances.

Two examples where the “big picture” was not considered and had negative energy impacts are:

  • Page 6.46 of the APS Training Manual present the actual billings for the Etobicoke Board of Education. The first APS conservation technique produced a 52.6% reduction in natural gas consumption. Others altered the mechanical system which eliminated the benefit of the first conservation technique and the natural gas consumption increased dramatically. APS applied an alternate conservation technique resulting a 60% reduction in natural gas consumption from original design.
  • Page 8.78 of the APS Training Manual presents graphs illustrating APS conservation logic improved energy performance by 49.75% over a conservation design applied by a major controls manufacture the previous year. APS was called to address extreme discomfort, which was corrected completely. The client was not aware of the lack of logic in the conservation alterations they purchased in the previous year.
