DX Cooling Opportunity

HVAC systems that mix fresh air and building return air to varying quantities for cooling purposes often have control logic comparing the total heat content of the outdoor to the total heat content of the return air.

Battle against climate change

Logical approaches to addressing climate change in the HVAC industry can provide both indoor and outdoor environmental improvement as well as financial benefits. Sample energy reductions calculated by the building owners present paybacks about one year while they reported superior indoor conditions for their building occupants.

Questions?

Here's where it gets interesting (and a bit confusing, even for adults): The system works with hydraulic fluid – think of it like the fluid that helps car brakes work, but way more advanced. The invention can take a small amount of this fluid and somehow create more fluid at higher pressure.

Fighting Climate Worry: A New Solution for Students

The Problem: Why Are Students Stressed About the Future?

Let’s be honest – if you’re in school right now, you’ve probably heard some pretty scary stuff about what the world might look like when you’re older. Two big worries keep coming up:

Climate Change

Scientists around the world (including those at the United Nations) have confirmed that our planet is getting warmer, and this could make life harder for your generation. A recent survey by the BBC found that young people everywhere are feeling anxious about climate change – and you’re definitely not alone if you feel this way too.

Running Out of Fossil Fuels

Here’s another worry: researchers at Stanford University say we might run out of oil, gas, and coal during your lifetime. Since these power most of our cars, heat our homes, and run our factories, that’s… well, that’s a pretty big deal for your future jobs and how society works.

The frustrating part? When you learn about these problems in science class, you probably don’t hear much about realistic solutions. That can make anyone feel helpless!

The Good News: A Canadian Invention That Could Help

But wait – there’s actually some exciting news that might not have made it to your textbooks yet!

A Canadian inventor has created something that could be a game-changer. Think of it like this: imagine if someone invented a way to make your phone battery last 10 times longer, but instead of phones, it’s for generating clean energy.

Why Should We Take This Seriously?

This isn’t just some random person’s garage experiment. The invention has been:

  1. Officially approved by patent offices in Canada, the United States, and Europe (that’s like getting a gold star from the world’s smartest science experts)
  2. Reviewed and approved by scientists with Ph.D.s (those are people who’ve spent years studying this stuff)
  3. Tested with working models that actually produce real results you can measure
  4. Reviewed by SIEMENS (a large engineering company) who signed off on how it works

The Mind-Bending Science Part

Here’s where it gets interesting (and a bit confusing, even for adults):

The system works with hydraulic fluid – think of it like the fluid that helps car brakes work, but way more advanced. The invention can take a small amount of this fluid and somehow create more fluid at higher pressure.

When scientists use the math formula Work = Pressure × Volume Change, something weird happens: the energy coming out seems to be more than the energy going in.

Now, this contradicts what your science textbook probably tells you about energy (that you can’t create more than you put in). But that’s exactly why this deserves investigation – sometimes real breakthroughs happen when we discover our textbooks need updating!

What This Could Mean for Your Future

If this invention works the way early tests suggest, it could:

  • Help solve the energy crisis before you graduate
  • Give you more career options in clean energy
  • Reduce those climate change worries that keep you up at night
  • Show you that humans are pretty good at solving big problems when we put our minds to it

The Bottom Line

You’re living through a time when some of the biggest challenges in human history are being tackled by some of the smartest people who’ve ever lived. While it’s normal to feel worried about the future, remember that breakthroughs often come from unexpected places – including right here in Canada.

Your generation isn’t just inheriting problems; you’re inheriting the tools and knowledge to solve them. And sometimes, those solutions are already being developed by the time you learn about the problems.

So the next time climate change or energy depletion comes up in science class, remember: there are people working on solutions, some of which might be further along than your textbook suggests.

You could also fill in the form below to show your support and to ask the Ontario Government to

  1. Conduct a formal assessment of the climate solution presented in the APS Training Course, and either publicly confirm or logically contest its findings in writing.
  2. If confirmed, take leadership in correcting the science curriculum while promoting the practical development and implementation of the invention across educational and industrial sectors, in Ontario and beyond.
